Instructional Design
The challenge in this project is that ethical problems are often complicated and require more than a formula to solve. However, a behaviour deemed 'unethical' in the business world may lead to serious consequences.
To overcome this challenge, I adopted the scenario-based learning strategy. This instructional strategy offers learners the opportunity to practice ethical decision making in replications of real-life situations. With the support from a subject matter expert, I wrote scenario-based questions for learners to monitor their own rationalisations and practice ethical decision making.
This course also teaches learners six strategies on dealing with confidential information. To make the course more engaging, the six strategies will be presented in a 2-minute animated video using Vyond. I coached a digital learning developer in writing the video script, which was then reviewed and finalised for development.

e-Learning Development
As the leader in the team, I coached the digital learning developer on the use of Vyond to create animated videos. I also instructed her on how to create an effective instructional video according to Richard Mayer's Multimedia Learning Principles.
When designing the instructional video, I applied the Spatial Contiguity, Redundancy, and Signaling Principles. Relevant text and visuals must be physically close together, narration and graphics should be included for optimal learning, and important words should be highlighted to signal what information is most important for learners. Avoiding unnecessary information on screen will also help prevent overwhelming the learner. I also ensured the video adhered to the company's branding guidelines. |
This e-learning course was well received with 1800+ financial practitioners enrolling and received a 4.5/5 overall learner satisfaction. Ultimately, it was a result of teamwork and commitment to deliver quality training.
Takeaways
This project gave me a great opportunity to lead and mentor a digital learning developer. I worked with a talented individual with a lot of potential. Together, we brought new ideas to the table and developed an engaging training course. As a result, we were able to complete the project ahead of schedule. Throughout the process, I learned a lot about leadership and management, and I was able to hone my skills in these areas. Overall, it was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have worked on such an exciting project.
