Process
This eCourse is a high priority in my company as the regulator has expressed their concern on the lack of knowledge of some financial practitioners in complying with the updated financial regulations. Therefore, this eCourse is part of a project to help learners to learn about the regulations and comply with the licensing requirements.
This project is a cross-departmental project with a tight deadline. I collaborated with members from another team and a SME who is an expert in the field to develop the course content. I chunked down the content into easily digestible information pieces. I also added different elements to make the course more engaging and interactive, such as adding explainer videos created with Vyond, interactive timeline using Engage 360, and customised drag-and-drop exercise created with Storyline.
The online course was well received by the learners with a 4.3/5 overall satisfaction rate. I also achieved and exceeded the company's target income.

Instructional Design
The challenges in this project were the complexity of the course content and the amount of raw content. The raw content contains eight chapters of materials and the study time of these chapters is about 80 hours. I needed to chunk it down and create a 3-hour course. Therefore, in the design phase, I adopted three content chunking strategies.
First, I started at the highest level which is to determine the content hierarchy of the course. I worked together with my teammates and the SME to determine how the topics and modules can be organised into a logical and progressive order. The course would be presented in a way where the learner will follow the real-life journey of carrying out a financial transaction from start to finish.

Second, I did a working memory check - I first reviewed all the raw materials and think whether all the content I have in front of me really need to be included. I then divided the content into manageable units of information as the recall capabilities of learners significantly decrease when increasingly complex concepts are delivered.
Third, this course would be developed using Articulate Rise and I chunked the key concepts at screen level. I organised the content so that each 'section' and 'lesson' in Rise consists of one chunk of related information.

I also wrote video scripts and drafted storyboards for the SME to review. With the design, course content, video scripts and storyboards ready in hand, I moved on to the development stage including the video development using Adobe Premier Pro and setting up the course in Articulate Rise.
e-Learning Development
I created a course introduction video using Adobe Premier Pro to set a personal tone for the course while calling out the key learning objectives and expectations of the course journey.
I also used Vyond to create a summary video for each of the three modules to help learners to recap on the key points of each module.
To make the course more interactive and engaging, I built an interactive drag-and-drop knowledge check from scratch using Storyline and built an interactive timeline using Engage 360 then imported them to Rise.

I also made use of the built-in scenario block in Rise to speed up the development.
Takeaways
I am proud with this project as I delivered the course with quality under a tight deadline and received positive feedback from the learners. Reflecting on this experience, I worked under pressure to achieve the company goals but I remained positive and determined during the whole process.
In terms of the technical skills, this eCourse gave me a great opportunity to practice using Articulate Rise. Rise is easy to use and very user-friendly to learners but I have gone the extra mile and made the eCourse more engaging and interactive by adding videos, interactive timeline and scenario-based question blocks.
I think this project is also a good example showcasing my project management and communication skills. With a tight deadline to meet, I separated the project into phases and completed the phases that take the longest amount of time as early as possible. In this project those were the content review stage, the development and review stage of videos. This project also gave me valuable experience in working in a cross-functional team and an SME. Each team member and the SME have their work priorities. I have learnt in this experience is to be well prepared and be concise whenever I have a meeting with them, such as preparing a list of questions that I would like to clarify with them and send those questions ahead of the meeting.
